2005 TAS Young Australian of the Year

Emma George Butler is a young advocate for the disabled community in Launceston. Suffering from cerebral palsy and being confined to a wheelchair, Emma has overcome adversity to achieve work towards her goal of improving integration for people with intellectual and physical differences. In 2003, Emma produced a video as a training tool for staff working with people with disabilities. This year Emma has coordinated her biggest project yet, the Big Chair Challenge, a week long series of events designed to highlight access issues within the Launceston CBD. Another of Emma's achievements is writing and directing a comedy film based on disabled people for a short film festival. At the age of 24, Emma is an inspirational young Australian who fights for the rights of all Australians.
