Alen-Igor O'Hran

2006 QLD Young Australian of the Year

Alen-Igor O'Hran is a remarkable young man who has made a significant contribution to his local community through his community service activities and student representative roles, including Senior Student Ambassador and attending the National Youth Roundtable. Alen-Igor was a delegate and coordinator for the 2004 Asia-Pacific Model United Nations Conference. He also is a volunteer English teacher and church leader. What makes his contribution so special is that only eight years ago Alen-Igor arrived as a refugee from the Balkans war with few possessions and no English. He excelled as a student at Brisbane State High and received a Law Founders scholarship for university. Alen-Igor went on to graduate with honours in law and distinction in a business degree. Alen-Igor is a polite, engaging, and articulate young man who remains modest about his many achievements.
