Australian of the Year

For nearly two decades, through her role at Communify Qld, Cait Wildman has helped countless refugees and migrants build new lives and a genuine sense of belonging in Australia.

From conversation classes and knitting groups to weekly community meals, Cait has helped people learn English, find employment, gain confidence and form lasting friendships through her work at her local community centre at Brisbane’s Kelvin Grove.

Cait led the development of an innovative literacy intervention program for people from refugee and migrant backgrounds called I Belong. The program helps open the door to citizenship for those with low literacy and few digital skills.

Cait attracts many volunteers from diverse backgrounds to join her in transforming the lives of new Australians. Together, they are building a stronger, more inclusive community.
